Cascade Head Trail
The beauty of the Oregon Coast can be seen from every angle when hiking the lower Cascade Head trail. After winding around a well maintained trail through a canopy of Oregon rain-forest, you will be led to a breathtaking view of the Salmon River estuary emptying into the Pacific Ocean. You are likely to see the grazing heard of elk, many coastal birds (often including hawks and bald eagles) and even an occasional migrating gray whale. The trail begins with a grueling set of natural stairs, but quickly evens out into a gradual 4.2 mile hike to the top of the mountain. The reward is well worth the effort with amazing view of the Salmon River meeting the Pacific Ocean at the base of Cascade Head.
